Transferring VHS to DVD

Feb 8, 2004 9:32PM PST

I have a video card with S-Video in (Nvidia GeForce FX 5200). If I buy a DVD burner, what else do I need to transfer my home VHS tapes to DVD? Do I need a video capture card? If so, what is a good one? I was also told to buy a Dazzle converter.

The Dazzle's work. I used one for years.

Today I have a 49 buck PCI TV card by Hauppauge and that does the capture step. The internal all format DVD recorder was $79 and the 8X cost $99 so this is a bargain compared to last years prices. The bundled software takes a little work, but I can make such discs.

Thanks Bob. So you are saying I should buy the $49 PCI TV card for the capture part and I won't also need a dazzle. Is Dazzle essentially an external capture device? Thanks. Bill

I might add something here; that s-video may not do you much good unless you have a SVHS machine because, I think, all regular vcr don't have an s-video output.
