Transferring time and date from DV camcorder to computer

Feb 17, 2006 12:14PM PST

Is there a way to digitally transfer video from my DV camcorder to my computer or DVR (it has a firewire input) INCLUDING the time and date stamp? I own a JVC GR-DVL300, and apparently it can't do this. I called JVC once and they said it couldn't be done. If not, is there another DV camcorder that will allow me to do this? I would like to be able to copy the time and date stamp to be able to always remember how old my kids were in our home movies (and the DVD copies I send to Grandma).

Thanks to anyone who can help!

You can simply name your file including the date and time...and then when editing the file include a title page with that information when creating final dvd.

My home videos end up being about 30 individual 2-minute clips and it seems pretty cumbersome to have to name each segment (I have dozens of mini-DV's full). Is there no way to just have the date stamp appear in the lower corner like it does if I record it to videotape? Are there any cameras that DO this?

Thanks!

No cameras do that, but ...

There is software that does add it onto the footage. See if Sony Vegas, Adobe Premiere or others let you add it onto the viewable video file.

Some camcorders let you record the date and time stamp on the video. It will play back when you watch it. It will transfer to PC when you capture it. It CANNOT be removed once it is recorded onto the tape. Keep that in mind.
I don't know specific model #'s that can record the date and time stamp on the screen, but look around and you'll find one.

Hmm. You don't know any specific models? I haven't been able to find any, and they certainly don't mention this in the specs anywhere to even know.

Thanks!

I am having the same problem. I can get the date and time to show while I am recording but when I transfer this onto my pc, I loose the date and time. There has to be a way to put this on the videos during playback. Hopefully somebody knows how too....

It's been answered many times in this forum. I don't keep the answer handy. Now all you need to do is use the forum search or google to find it.
