Transferring/editing from 8mm tape to CD or other medium

by tar63 / December 28, 2008 10:29 PM PST

Can anyone suggest a way to transfer 8mm taped camcorder footage to some other medium, either CD or hard drive? Is there a product or site that would be helpful?

Thanks

....your 8mm camcorder should have Audio/Video output jacks which you can connect to a computer with video/audio capture or a TV card.....then go on from there....

Hello Papa echo,

Thanks for your post. I do indeed have the audio/visual cord but how would it connect to the computer...is there an adapter of sorts or would that adapter be part of the capture program I might have to purchase....sorry to be so apparently ignorant !

As indicated by my previous post, conection is via your computer video-audio capture card or TV capture card with analogue to digital jacks.... you probably do not have these, so you need to purchase them....it's just one solution....otherwise, you need to find a digital8 camcorder which plays them 8mm analogue tapes which output them in digital format via Firewire to your computer. Such a model of camcorder is the out of production SONY DCR-TRV480 which may be found at, e.g. eBay .....If you need only a DVD, the easiest is a DVD recorder as suggested by Bob...
