Unless you are doing something special in your home network, I would stick to the basics. What are the basics you ask?
1) IP/DNS addressing is set to auto
2) file and print sharing is enabled
3) workgroup names the same
4) firewalls off until a working network occurs.
My current desktop is an aged 900mHz w/ Windows ME. My current desktop is connected to a D-link router(DI-624) and my laptop (win xp) is connected wirelessly to my desktop to share files, printers,& sbc DSL. I am planning to purchase a new computer shortly and would like to know the easiest way to ''transfer'' my current network + router settings to my new computer so that both my new comp and my laptop will be able to communicate, and that I still be able to surf the internet on my laptap. I've been putting off buying a new computer because I'm afraid I'm going to mess things up.
