Question

Transfer Playlists from iPod to iTunes (Win 10 reinstalled)?

Jun 7, 2019 11:06AM PDT

Hi,
I appreciate if anyone has a solution for this:

My laptop (Lenovo) crashed and I had to reinstall Windows (Win 10). I have lots of Playlists on my iPod Nano. I also have the music files (mp3) on my laptop's hard disk. I have difficulty to recreate the playlists on iTunes... I have Googled and even talked to Apple Support but no success !!
I have exported the Playlists (tried both as .txt & as .XML) from the iPod to my PC; but when I try to import the Playlists to iTunes, I get an error saying "some files were not imported because they were not found". I have watched many YouTube videos, but none of them helped!

I'd be grateful if anyone has a solution!!

Thanks a lot!
Pouyan

As in, it may or may not work. The lists are just that and the files not imported means just that. The mp3 files are not where they used to be.

Now that we know this is not something the iPod wasn't made to do you can google about IRIP and see if it does any better.

It does not import any songs at all! zero!

Lists are not songs.

That why I used IRIP last time.

Maybe that is why you ran into trouble. Maybe you thought "If I can get my Playlists" all would be well. But that's just the list and not the songs.

Again, IRIP (all caps.)

Thanks! I took a look into iRip but it seems it only works if you have purchased the music from Apple!

Not from my experience.

IRIP would rip the content out of the iPod and didn't care where you bought it.

As to your XML files all the story tells me is you have your XML and might have your MP3s but one would have to have the MP3s where indicated by the XML file.

You would either be a programmer or at least learn enough XML to find out why that XML caused a file not found error.

Here's where IRIP (all caps) tells how to get a playlist.

DO NOT DO THIS!!! THERE ARE STEPS BEFORE THIS TO AVOID DELETING IPOD CONTENT!!! IF YOU DON'T FOLLOW THE STEPS BY IRIP YOUR IPOD CONTENT WILL VANISH.

So with that out of the way, here's IRIP ripping your content and playlist from IPOD to PC.

"Import your music.

In Manual Import mode, you can import individual songs on your iPod or iPhone to iTunes. To import an entire playlist, click the button to the right of a selected playlist in the sidebar."
http://thelittleappfactory.com/irip/quickstart.php

REMEMBER I HAVE SCREAMED WITH ALL CAPITAL LETTERS THERE ARE MORE STEPS SO IF ANYONE PLUGS IN THEIR IPOD WITHOUT READING THE FULL INSTRUCTIONS, IT IS NOT MY FAULT.

Can you tell WHY you can't recreate the playlists on a new Windows install. After all, you have the mp3's on your hard disk and it worked when you did it before. So it's strange it doesn't work now.

Didn't you make a backup of the iTunes data. You should be able to restore that.

I guess you mean why I can't just add music to iTunes again (?). Well, I have around 100 Playlists on my iPod and I want to re-import them to iTunes. I cannot do them from scratch again... nearly impossible! I have .XML files for the playlists and I also have the mp3 files and according to some instructions online, I should be able to import them, but seems iTunes cannot locate my music on my new Hard disk!

I have seen some soft wares are suggested to facilitate this, I tried 2 of them (TunesGo & TouchCopy) but I could not get the soft wares to start up in the first place!
