I had the same problem vith VHS tapes I wanted on DVD. I bought a Pioneer combo VHS/DVD recorder. All you have to do with this type of unit is stick in the VHS tape and dub it to DVD. It is done in real time, 1 hour of tape becomes 1 hour of DVD. The quality I have gotten is exactly the same as the quality of the source. You could also buy a DVD only recorder and plug your VCR into it to copy the tapes.
You do give up some of the editing and chapter features but it sure is easy.
I am trying to transfer video from camcorders to a computer to burn it to a DVD without any loss of picture quality. The original home video is on an old VHS tape. When it is played on a TV the quality is good. Since the original VHS tapes are old I transferred them to a digital camcorder tape. When the digital tape is played to the TV the quality remains good. However, when I transfer the digital tape contents to the computer and then burn it to a DVD or CD and then play it to the same TV the picture quality is terrible. I have tried different software programs such as ShowBiz to capture the video content and burn it and despite maximizing the resolution with the program the picture quality when played on the TV is truly poor. Any Ideas? Has anyone run into this? Is there another capture and burning program that someone has had good luck with? Any help would be appreciated.
