Transfer from iPod to new laptop. . .

Mar 20, 2006 10:25PM PST

I inherited my wife's iPod mini. I installed it and iTunes on my desktop. I just got a new laptop. I installed iTunes on the laptop. How can I add my music from the iPod to the new laptop. Impoprt doesn't work, no option. iPod Help doesn't mention, or I can't find it, importing from an iPod. iTunes on the laptop recognizes the iPod and lists my music but I can't get the songs onto the laptop.

Thanks,

Wayne

iDump
Mar 21, 2006 12:45AM PST

Yes iDump is a great tool. I'm not sure how it works with music bought from the iTune music stores. All my music is Mp3s ripped from cds and I know for a fact it works with those files.

If it works for you could you please let me know.

It didn't. . .

It would open, find the iPod, import all the songs, then say there was no iPod connected. Couldn't get it to work.

Just a note.

If the content is legit, I'd always want to be proven wrong...

However, Apple does have DRM deeply embedded in iTunes to keep the pod from being a music copy machine.

DRM and iPod transfer
Mar 20, 2006 11:48PM PST

I don't think it is the actual DRM that prevents the transfer of music from the iPod to the Computer, rather that Apple physically disabled this functionality in the iPod.
There are a number of programs out there that will allow for the movement of tracks from the iPod the Computer.

I found each album folder on my desktop. I copied them to the laptop via my home network. I opened iTunes, Edit, Add Folder to Library, done.
