Question

Transfer audio from portable digital recorder to CD or USB

Jun 9, 2016 11:11AM PDT

Hello, I have audio on a portable digital recorder with the USB port. I know that I can transfer the audio using a USB cord to my computer. However, I need the audio for an important case and was afraid that I would be accused of "tampering" with the audio file if I downloaded it on my computer and then just transferred it to a CD.

If possible, is there a way to transfer my audio from my portal digital recorder directly to a CD or USB using an external device or burner system?

Please let me know.

Answer
For this you need a lawyer.

They will tell you all about what to do next. There is a chain of custody and more to consider.

The original would be the recorder and your lawyer would take that into their custody. You would keep copies just in case.

-> It's a legal problem, not a computer issue.

We're the lawyers

Interestingly enough, we are the lawyers who have the files from our clients and are trying to make it seem as if we are not as tampering with the files. We really want to present ourselves as authentic.

As you know, not a PC issue.

It would make no difference how you copy it. It's a copy. The original would be that and kept locked up and ready for the day it's needed.

https://www.google.com/search?q=how+to+submit+audio+to+the+court&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8 and your own caselaw, findlaw searches are good to know too.

The last time this came up the lawyer had it transcribed to text that was in the brief. As you know, it's what written is what you submit.
