Trackball

Apr 4, 2005 4:18AM PDT

Hello - Got myself a MS trackball optical mouse which is great on the wrist, but does not do everything it is cracked up to do: The keys are supposed to be programmable but when I do that, the programming tends to disappear when I reboot. For example, the left outside button is supposed to act as a "back" command. It sometimes does, often does not, even where the "back" on the toolbar does. Any ideas? Amos

1. Too many products expect you to look to the maker's website for software updates to address such issues.

2. Some of these programmable mice require you to "SAVE SETTTINGS" or such vanish. I am not reading the manual... but know about such things.

3. If its defective, pack it up and return it. It's the only way to send the message.

except return the mouse, since it was a gift. Trouble is I DON'T KNOW if this is a defect, or if all mice of that kind act that way, or if possibly I've been doing something wrong. Can you enlighten? Amos.

Not all mice do this.

It's a software bug. Or you have not found it's menu to "save settings." In fact, you didn't write you did "save settings."

available, only "Apply" on the buttons menu, and I did that. Still, result is the same. I guess I'll have to leave well enough alone. Amos.

version 4.10., connected to the PS/2 Mouse Port, with IntelliPoint Software (could not find out what version, if any). When I used the Hardware Update Wizard, the finding was "could not find a better match" for the driver. That's all I could do. Amos.

Looks like an old version to me.

That update driver button is just a demo. You'll have to go get the latest Intellimouse software for your model MANUALLY off the Microsoft hardware web site.
