trace.log file grows uncontrollably

Dec 9, 2003 11:00PM PST

Every few days I get a message from XP indicating my C-drive is very low on disc space. I have found that there is a file in c:\Windows\system32\logfiles\wmi named trace.log that grows in size until it has filled up the c drive. I have about 2 GB free on the c drive and this file will grow until it has used ALL of this free space. Simply rebooting the computer will drop the size of the file back to something reasonable (10 MB or so, sometimes smaller).

What is causing this file to grow uncontrollably and how can I stop it from doing so?

Please read through the MSKB article, "Q302552" to begin with. Then be aware of the statement in the MSDN article Global Logger Session which states, "If FileName is not specified, events are written to %SystemRoot%\System32\LogFiles\WMI\trace.log. The path to this file must exist."
