"Tough" flash drives

Mar 4, 2015 3:06AM PST

I buy flash drives all over the place, like in bundle deal or run to the local shop and get one. These in turn become either the customer's, left with them after reimbursement or to lug my files/pgms., I deem necessary plus a immediate storage media.

I really don't buy super cheap or those that look too cheap. While, I'm willing to try a different brand now and then, I stick to some brands having proven themselves. I brought Kingston, in small metal case and able store easily. However, too often I forget and leave a flash drive behind to retrieve later, thus I tend to buy "colorful flash drives" and attach a leash of sorts in order to remember. I also look for so-looked tough or ruggized flash drives. Here, I think I found one that states it is one, the Gorilla "ruggized" drive. It sure looks to be tough, being rubber coated, sealable cap(up to 65ft.), and metal loop to leash. So far, its done its job and appears to work in typical applications. I just thought to offer what works for me.

No, I haven't brought bullet shaped, cartoon character, or gadget flash drives, but they do look neat. Wink

I admit it. I own a few Domo carton flash drives.

I also have the Tron motorcycle flash drive. These were picked up on sale and used occasionally for booting one of the many bootable OSes. Domo has a copy of the TAILS OS. Makes it easy to spot in my bag of flash drives.

My 1st flash drive...
Mar 4, 2015 3:37AM PST

Was given to me by my boss, yrs. ago and requested back. It was 16Mb size and really was something I could use and brag about at least for a little while. Nope, within a week, my boss needed it back to appease a customer and allow him some saving grace. I finally brought a 32Mb at the local yearly "radio flea market" or ham fest. That flash drive is still with me and boots the NTpassword pgm. at my desk when needed. roger and out -----Willy Happy

My first favorites were the Corsair Voyagers

I still have a couple around here but they're only 4 gbs. They are rubberized with a rubber cap that fits snuggly. Also, they have a nice hole at the base for your chain or lanyard clip. None I've seen have been sturdier. The later ones I have are generic Microcenter brand. I like that they have a flashing LED so I know there's activity going on. Flashing LED types I've found are important if you've installed Linux or some bootable utility. I'm not going to worry about how deep a dive any of these can take or whether they come with microwave instructions. My lanyard now had 6 flash drives and a cheap network signal detector tool. It's my kind of bling. Happy
