If the touch pad app has been removed, damaged or cleaned (those registry and other PC speed up apps do that!) then you should only see the basic mouse controls.

Find your Sony at the sony web site and see if they have some Touch pad utilities. I can't guess which country model you have and most folk know their model and which Sony web site to check. Supply that link and I might be able to tell you which app it is.

OK, why not the TouchPad one?

"Pointing Device / Touchpad Driver

2.75 Mb - 64 bit
29-09-2009"

Without that your common pad looks/acts like a mouse.

I see they put it in a ZIP file.

Unzip and see if there is some setup.exe inside. There are tomes about ZIP files on the web but Windows 7 should be able to open it natively. That is, double click it.

i removed the pointer file already in the Drivers folder and placed the downloaded file into it. i then restarted my laptop and it seems to work now. Would this be ok to do this way , as in would it cause any problems or should i just keep both files in the Driver folder

Your choice.

Sounds dangerous to me as permissions would not be correct versus a proper setup install.

But your choice to do something different as that is what a PC is all about.

It's a shame they didn't document how to use it.

The most common is some setup.exe. Next are the .INF files.

I think Microsoft never got the memo that folk don't want to be computer scientists.
