Question

Touchpad on my Gateway N522 not working....Help!

Jan 9, 2016 11:18AM PST

My Gateway N522 laptop's touchpad is not working. I have had pc cleaned and updated to no avail. I'm currently accessing using USB mouse, which is not very practical for a laptop. Does anyone know how to get touchpad back working? Would appreciate any assistance!

Answer
There are many priors about 10 and touchpads.

I can't tell if this is the usual W10 touchpad issue, whether it's a hardware issue or pilot error.

On my laptop the touchpad disables when I plug in my mouse, or on my old Gateway netbook there is a function key that toggles the touchpad on and off.

Tell more about your knowledge of your machine and don't leave out model numbers as folk might call out the exact Fn Key or the driver.

Windows 10 Touchpad not working
Jan 9, 2016 12:23PM PST

I apologize this forum is new to me. My laptop is NE522 and I have a pc service (we subscribe to) who took it over yesterday and cleaned and updated everything including drivers. They were unable to get touchpad to work and suggested taking it to a hardware professional.....which I'm trying to avoid.

Touchpad was not working prior to plugging in USB mouse, not as a result of it. I had to use USB mouse in order to let pc service gain access. Laptop is about 3-4 years old and upgraded to Windows 10 (from 8.1) about 2 months ago. I had a problem with volume icon disappearing, but was able to retrieve it. Touchpad not working occurred about 3 days ago out of the blue. Again and suggestions/solutions would be greatly appreciated.

OR...

There's an app needed. On a Dell here Dell has this QuickSet app to turn on WiFi and other things.

Drivers are now painful for everyday users to find (well, I use the maker's web site) and then we have the OTHER thing to install. Your model might need an app to get the touchpad enabled or it's turned off in the BIOS.

Hardware repair is getting more and more expensive or rather the cost of the laptops is getting cheaper and cheaper. I suggest to many to not repair and use the external if the cost isn't worth it.

--> HERE'S HOW I TEST FOR TOUCHPAD HARDWARE FAILURES. I boot a Live OS.
There are so many such as the UBCD or Live Linux discs.
