Touch pad not working with Windows 10

by fswg / July 31, 2015 6:34 PM PDT

We downloaded Windows 10 on an ASUS Transformer 100T, and now the touch pad is not working. (Had been using Windows 8.1) Any suggestions? The touchscreen works and can type in text boxes, but the touch pad does not work so that cannot navigate around using Touchpad.

Re: Windows 10 Installation Disables Touchpad.

#7 worked for my Dell netbook. Same issue, pad not working, it was set to disable when external USB was plugged in. Must be the default when win 10 installs. Take that off and you're good to go. Thank you thank you thank you!!!

Every time I try to install I get a message saying Source file not found: C:\User\AppData\Local\Temp\Temp_SmartGesture_Win10_64_VER406.zip\SETUP.CAB. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it.

Any tips?

Try this to fix scrolling

I had the same problem and I discovered that if I used 2 fingers held vertically anywhere on the touchpad and moved them either up to scroll up or down to scroll down it worked.

Try restarting your laptop. I installed windows 10 on my laptop and the touchpad stopped working so i then pressed restart and this configured the updates and the touchpad worked.

RE: Touch pad not working with Windows 10(FIX)
by Abbra_Kadaver / August 18, 2015 3:23 PM PDT

Uninstalling Asus Smart Gesture on my wife's t300lx fixed the issue. In her case smartgesture was completely disabling the trackpad. No pointer, nothing. Uninstalling and reinstalling smartgesture from the ASUS support site just caused the trackpad to stop working again. Her trackpad works now that SmartGesture is uninstalled but she doesn't have the two-finger scroll ability. Until Asus or Microsoft figure this out it's a temporary fix. Or if anyone can suggest an alternative software that would be helpful.

So I installed the Windows 8.1 SmartGesture drivers on my wife's Windows 10 installation and that fixed everything.

My touchpad not working
by lisafr8 / August 19, 2015 4:12 PM PDT

I tried the various suggestions everyone else here posted, since I just installed Windows 10 last weekend and am bummed about the touchpad problem. My Logitech external wireless mouse works just fine.

Anyway, when I checked the Device Manager/Mice and Other Pointing Devices/ELantech/Properties, all the screens indicated my Elantech touchpad/mouse was working just fine (but it was frozen and wouldn't move).

When I selected "Update Driver" (the current driver was dated 7/15/15) - it said my driver was up to date. That same driver menu (under Properties) gave me the option to "Roll back driver" - so I tried that. I was told to restart the computer.

Now the touchpad pointer works fine with single-finger scroll and the driver properties says "Microsoft PS/2 Mouse", Driver Date 6/21/2006.

Obviously, the driver is WAY out of date, but it works fine for me for now. I'm waiting to see when Asus/Elantech/Microsoft (or whomever is in charge of this problem!) fixes it and I can install an up to date driver.

Hope this helps,
Lisa

Toshiba Scam
by pellenbogen / August 21, 2015 10:07 AM PDT

I recently upgraded my Satellite S55t laptop to Windows 10. My laptop is still under warranty. The Elan touchpad does not work in Windows 10 and Toshiba has not chosen to provide updated drives. Instead they transfer you (after hours on hold) to some tech in the Philippines who tells you that your warranty only covers hardware and that you will need to pay $100 to fix a problem that Toshiba should have fixed weeks ago before windows 10 was released. THIS IS A SCAM!!!

Actually it may not be.

In reply to: Toshiba Scam

Folk that don't do self service pay for others to do the work noted above.

There's also the issue that except for specific models that were bought with a "10 guarantee" we are still looking at the same old Microsoft and other makers. The thing is, today's more entitled thinking folk do not want to know how this works or what agreements were made. They only want.

Try installing the Windows 8.1 SmartGesture driver

Ironically Windows 10 just updated on my n550jk and my touchpad stopped working. Downloading and installing the 8.1 Smart Gesture worked like a charm. I also used the Microsoft Trouble shooter to block the new driver in updates.

An easier method
by ShaneCamburn80 / August 24, 2015 9:02 AM PDT

If the listed method doesn't work just go to:

Control Panel>Device Manager>Mice and other pointing devices>Properties>Driver>Uninstall

Reboot the computer and it should work. The "forced" updates break my Synaptics TouchPad about once per week it seem since I upgraded the day Win 10 was released. This seems universal for any TouchPad pointing device. Unfortunately, their "forced" updates are not compatible to every system. They also keep replacing my Nvidia GTX Titan Black drivers and changing my resolution from 4096x2160 to 1400x1050 which is a terrible difference on a 47" digital HD monitor. Hopefully, they will fix these quirks soon or it will be back to Windows 7 again for me...

Use win 8.1 driver
by itsbetterdays / August 31, 2015 12:39 AM PDT

Hi.

I have a Samsung NP905s3g 9 series netbook, laptop with the same issue. My touchpad did work, but not the two-finger scroll, tap to click etc.

I went to the samsung and downloaded the touchpad driver* for win 8.1 and installed it (even though my computer now runs on win 10) - works like charm! Good luck!

* The driver wasn't named touchpad driver though, the driver name was "Driver for touchscreen"

The problem with this suggestion:
by Kees_B Forum moderator / August 31, 2015 1:00 AM PDT
In reply to: Use win 8.1 driver

He already had Windows 8.1.

So unless an updated version of his existing 8.1 driver works in Windows 10, the conclusion would be that Asus isn't Samsung.
