Touch pad not working with Windows 10

by fswg / July 31, 2015 6:34 PM PDT

We downloaded Windows 10 on an ASUS Transformer 100T, and now the touch pad is not working. (Had been using Windows 8.1) Any suggestions? The touchscreen works and can type in text boxes, but the touch pad does not work so that cannot navigate around using Touchpad.

asus touchpad/windows 10 not working...
by Robert Lemond / August 18, 2015 2:08 PM PDT

If you go into device manager and update the driver on the ELAN device, don't let it search automatically and just set it as a generic PS/2 mouse.. works perfect.. takes 5 seconds to do...

Plus in a USB mouse to do this if you didn't figure that out:)

No Touchpad or mouse with Windows 10 on Asus laptop
by slarson806 / August 22, 2015 2:16 AM PDT

How do I access Device Manager without a Touchpad or mouse? All I can get to is Task Manager. I don't know how to update or alter device software without the use of either of these.

Thanks for any help

How to access device manger - Mouse free
by mph5mph / September 6, 2015 8:30 AM PDT

To access device manager without a mouse or mouse pad - Hold down the windows button and press x at the while the windows button is held down. Then hit down on your key pad until device manager is highlighted. Press enter with device manager highlighted and it will bring up the device manager.

Hope this helps!

P.S. Pro tip- you can use tab to navigate most forms and use enter to select options.

No clicking or scrolling
by jaqck / August 31, 2015 1:56 AM PDT

So before nothing on the laptop touchpad worked at all, so improvement, I guess. Now I can move the cursor, but that's all. Tapping the touch pad does nothing and clicking the actual buttons does nothing. Can't scroll or magnify on the touchpad either.

Ran updates. Mouse worked for approximately 10 seconds. Now back where I started. Cursor won't even move. The option for generic PS/2 mouse is gone. Windows informs me I have installed the best driver and my device is "working properly."

what is an ELAN and how do i set it as a generic PS/2 mouse? im not a tech person but im frustrated that my touchpad wont work properly - everytime i use my keypad, the touchpad lags for 10-15 seconds before working again. VERY SLOW!

ELAN is not a thing but a company.
by R. Proffitt Forum moderator / October 1, 2015 8:30 AM PDT
In reply to: clarification

"ELAN Microelectronics Corporation" to be exact. In your case 10 to 15 seconds would have me looking for a malware infection or considering a factory restore of the PC.

NO ELAN
by muzri13 / November 5, 2015 8:35 AM PST

To those who does not have an ELAN device. If you look on your keyboard, it may be F6 or F7 there is a symbol that looks like a hand touching a touchpad with a cancel sign. I did FN key + F7 and my touchpad worked again.

This worked for me, and I wanted to remind you that, if like me, you don't have another mouse handy (which made me frantically look a solution in the first place), You can tab from cell to cell, arrow key around a page and alt-tab between pages. I was easily able to get where I needed without a pointer.

And it's still not working, you have to get back to the machine's maker.

That said, I've lost how many times folk write it's not working but didn't complete the advised work or read the thread.
Note: Edited for typo.
