Touch 2nd Generation and Wi-Fi

by hejackson312 / August 22, 2009 5:08 AM PDT

I have a second generation Ipod Touch and it will not connect to the wireless internet I use at home. I live in a small housing complex. We have a internet hot spot. My laptop connects fine although it only always has a low signal strength. However, my Touch will not even pick-up the network as an available network.

Does anyone have any idea why and/or any suggestions to fix it?

iPod touch has a lot less range
by d_adams / August 22, 2009 6:25 AM PDT

I have an iPod touch 1st gen, and it doesn't have as good a range as a laptop. You said that where you are, you get low signal strength on your laptop. So, I imagine your just too far from the router. You might find where the router is, and see if you can move it too a higher place where there are no metal objects (file cabinets or something like that) between it, and your room/house.

which iphone OS??
by mrglsmrc-1 / August 23, 2009 4:52 PM PDT

it might be useful to know if you are using 3.0 or 2.2 for diagnosing a wifi problem because things are done differently and some people do have problems with the better newer iphone OS.

I might also ask if you have tried to take a wifi signal strength reading with either a laptop or the ipod touch 2ndGen. you can do this in the settings of the ipod.

It might also be useful to know if this is a g wifi network or a n wifi network because i am not sure that the touch is n capable.

there is good cheap wifi network analysis software for the touch. i use wififofum available from the app store at itunes.

ipod and wi-fi
by hw4977 / August 28, 2009 2:10 PM PDT

I have a 2nd gen Ipod and use it on my home wi-fi network. If someone in my house uses the cordless phone the connection to the ipod drops. I have filters on my phone cord but it doesn't help.

I think the best thing is it's just a too weak a signal for your ipod.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
