Toslink passthrough HDMI

by wardy277 / December 12, 2010 10:03 PM PST

Hi,

I recently bought a Samsung 5.1 speaker system "Samsung HT-C450N". I connected it to my 1 year old Samsung 37" TV. My main goal was to send both my Pc and Xbox through HDMI to the TV, then send the 5.1 from the Tv to the speaker system. I seem to be only getting stereo.

Please tell me that the TV can send 5.1 form the HDMI down the toslink?

I dont want to have to go back to analogue as its so messy. I though an optical cable would be way better than 3 analogue cables?

wardy277,

5.1 is only available for the tuner. There is not HDMI passthrough that I'm aware of on any of the 2010 model TVs.

Is there any reason for this? Is there any chance that a firmware upgrade would open up the 5.1 to the HDMI aswell as the tuner? I feel this is a huge flaw as without passing 5.1 down the optical, i feel its pretty useless even bothering with the anynet+ system.

am i reading that right? by disabling 'display discovery' from within the xbox (360) settings the 5.1 through HDMI will go into tv, then the tv will send 5.1 via optical to the dvd player/amp

Do i not need any other cables?

Did you not understand what the Samsung rep told you?

Let me try to make it clear for you ... It will not work!

The short answer is NO

Is there any part of that you don't understand?

Ignore idiots who tell you that sometone "thinks it works".
They are feeding you false hope.

Insead, you should join the growing throng of disgruntled Samsung owners who have not get what was advertised or infered.

I've no experience of this - just pointing you to another discussion. You should follow-up there. Almost every other post on the subject says it can't be done. I've also seen suggestions no other manufacturer will do it either.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
