Toshiba Satellite won't turn on. Burnt plastic smell

Apr 19, 2015 4:07AM PDT

Hi I'm new here

Ive had my laptop for about 2 years and it's undergone many problems - broken screens, dust in the fan etc.

yesterday I was using it as normal when it switched off completely without any warning. I'm used to this happening as my laptop regularly overheats and switches off like this. However, when I turned it back on it made a high pitched noise that kept on getting higher until the laptop switched off again. I think the noise was from the fan. There was also a weird slight smell of burning plastic. My laptop won't turn on and when I plug it in the orange power light doesn't come up. PLEASE HELP I HAVE MY WHOLE ITUNES LIBRARY AND SCHOOL WORK ON THERE

Also in the past week the hing on one side of the laptop has broken off. The screen still worked and any wires were still intact

Try removing the HDD

And putting it in some USB case to access on a working machine.

And please folk, backup. It's cheaper than data recovery.

As to SCHOOL WORK. Why isn't that on your Dropbox so you have a free backup?

Thanks that's helpful

But what's a Dropbox?

You'll find it on most any search engine.

I keep things I want HARD TO KILL (or lose) on my Dropbox. Since it's 2GB of free hard to kill by accident and syncs as we go, I can't imagine a school or such paper to not be there as well.

"your Dropbox" is short for "your 2.25 GB free storage space on Dropbox.com".
Don't you yet have an account?
