It's usually more than a new laptop. Your data might be OK. Many put the old laptop HDD into some case.

i dropped my laptop and now it turns on and i hear a boot up beep and the fans work and the lights turn on but only when plugged it. however, when i press the power button, it doesn't turn off. and i have a black screen all the time. The RTC battery was out of place when I opened it. i put it back but still it is the same.
Any suggestions?
