Toshiba Satellite Pro hard drive replacement?

Oct 16, 2004 10:29PM PDT

Hello,
I have two Satellite Pro laptops and wanted to switch the hard drive from the model 430CDT(dead) to 420CD. They both are identical and I already switched the ram on the two computers and upgraded from 16m to 40m. Now I'd like to switch the hard drives. Could someone enlighten me on how to accomplish this switch? The physical size of each hard drive is identical.
Thanks,
Steve

For me, I unplugged one and plugged in the other. Sometimes I get to reinstall the OS.

On many notebooks there is a proprietary connector between the hard drive and the notebook so if you get a brand new hard drive then make sure you take this connector off the old hard drive and put in on the new one.

Otherwise, if the notebooks are the same the physical swapping of the hard drives should be straightforward (usually accessed by taking out screw and opening slot under the notebook.

Loading the software is more complex especially if you want to transfer the data from one hard drive to another but if you are swappping a healthy hard drive from one compatible notebook to another then that should not be an issue.
