General discussion

Toshiba Satellite L355-WMO.99

Jun 4, 2009 2:40AM PDT

Was wondering if I could get some input?
I have been using a SONY VAIO PCV-RX650, P-4 1.6Ghz desktop with CD-RW/DVD-ROM optical drives, 80GB HD and WinXP Home_SP2 for the past 8-9 years. It is on it's last leg.
I am not into video editing, burning movies or gaming so I was thinking about replacing it with a Toshiba Satellite L355-WMO.99, Celeron 2.16Ghz, 1MB L2, 667MHz FSB, Mobile Intel GL40 Express Chipset, Windows Vista, 3GB Memory, Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M, Card Reader, 160GB HD, DVD SuperMulti ( /-R double layer) drive, wireless, 17" screen. Wally World, I mean WalMart has them for $398.00.
Do you think this would be a good replacement seeing as I am not into gaming and such. I basically just do research, some photo editing watch some video's and surf the web reading.

We have one of those.

The one we have has a shutdown bug (it doesn't power down) so while the price is right and I did up the RAM to 3GB and it runs fine that lone bug makes me write "keep shopping." Yes I bet I could look at it but it is the kids laptop so we just tell them to shutdown, wait and then press the button until it powers down later.

This is not up for discussion about how to fix or the dangers of doing this. I will not enter into that discussion.

Bob,

Thank you. Between your recommendation and online research I have thrown away the thought of throwing good money away. I can afford a better one so I just need to get off a little more cash.
Thanks again.
