Toshiba satellite c650d-126 upgrade madness

Sep 26, 2018 10:36AM PDT

Hi there. I was trying to find info on upgrading the cpu of my toshiba satellite c650d-126. However i have found nothing usefull expect for "it should work for 25 watt socket s1 cpus" but seems that no one has really tested it. So do any of you guys have any experience with it? Currently it has an amd v120. The chipset is AMD M880G. Thanks in advance.

Why this is.

This is so rarely done and there has been no sign of the maker sharing a list of alternative CPUs so you are stuck with what you find.

Here, I have yet to do this for many reasons but mostly because as a shop we would have to warrant the work which we can't because of the first reason.

So we offer the other upgrades that we know work. We'll swap HDDs to SSDs and get the RAM up to 8 or 16GB.

I quess i could try

An athlon ii p320 is very cheap and it has a tdp of 25 watts. Some other models of the c650d series use it. I may as well try. A dual core would be nice because there is a cpu bottleneck i think.

No one seems to document it.

But since there is a c650d with the p320, chances are high it will work. You can't complain to anyone if it doesn't or you fry the machine.

I'm going to try.

Just going to do a bios update first. I'm going to give you the results once the cpu arrives.
