toshiba satellite A110 - how much memory can it take?

by jennyinjamaica / August 15, 2007 3:02 AM PDT

Hi there. I have a Toshiba Satellite A110 with 512mb ram. The computer is running so slowly (and has plenty HD space left) that I'm sure it needs more memory. How much can this computer hold? How do I find out this information? Do I just add more or do I have to replace what's in there now? Is this something I can easily do at home? I don't live in the U.S. so I have to order the memory and have it sent to me here.

The poor old computer only has 1.46 ghz, so I know it will never be blazing fast, but after I added various firewall and anti-virus stuff, the darn computer drags at a ridiculously slow pace. (I'm using the paid version of ZoneAlarm on it).

Advice appreciated!

(the laptop is actually the one my husband uses)

site worked like a charm... now this:

Thanks for the information - it worked like a charm. The computer currently has in one 512mb card and can take 2 1gig cards.

Now I'm wondering this: considering the other specs of the computer, will we see enough of an improvement in performance to warrant buying 2 1gigs or should I just add one 1 gig and be done with it?

Also, it takes 200-pin sodimm ddr2 cards. This is sort of greek to me, but helps in looking around at different websites. Are some brands known to be better than others? Should I go on price alone, or are there other things to consider?
