Toshiba Power Management - any way to turn it off?

Jun 3, 2005 3:15PM PDT

I somehow didn't have TPM enabled and fiddled with my power options (like how long my computer can be idle before it goes into standby mode and all that jazz). Now, TPM is on (which I'm fairly certain it always was) and I can't acess the Microsoft Power Options - I bring up the window and a popup comes up that says "To adjust your power settings, close Power Options and open Toshiba Power Management" but TPM doesn't let me adjust what I need to adjust - it just lets me adjust the screen brightness, fan usuage, etc.

Can anyone help?

Okay, so if no one knows how to turn it off, does anyone know if completely uninstalling it from the system will have any adverse affects on my computer?

TPM adds an additional layer to complement
WPM. They are supposed to work in tandem.
However, if you wish to disable TPM you
will need to remove via registry. Navigate
to the

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

key and remove any or all references
to "Tpwrsave" or whatever toshiba equivalent you
have.

Removing TPM all together will not affect the
machine itself, but will affect the how the OEM
designed it to cool more efficiently than WPM.

Is there any way I can adjust the interval that my computer can be inactive before the monitor turns off, it goes into standby, and hibernate? TPM is useful, I'd rather not completely remove it, but I do need to change the times - right now it goes into standby mode after 2 minutes of inactivity.

yes and yes...

Do you not see the option for this??
First of all, what OS are you running?
What model Toshiba do you have??

In control panel do you not see the
Power Icon?? If so, is it disabled??
From EITHER TPM or WPM you should be
able to adjust the time interval with
respect to LCD shutdown. You should
also have an option to turn on HIBERNATE
(which is a good idea to begin with)
I also use standby...

Just keep looking in the Power Options
or within Toshiba Power options. ITS there.

Okay - thanks. Sorry I sound like an idiot. I've looked for that stuff, but I'll look for it again.

It's Windows XP and on a A75-S231.

here is how to adjust the times and intervals...
Jun 29, 2005 2:35AM PDT

Open the Toshiba Power Management utility windows...

In the "Power Save Modes" tab, highlight the Battery Power option you have chosen, such as "Long life, Normal, High Power... etc."

Then click "Details"

Then go to the "Power Save Mode" Tab and you should be able to adjust your settings accordingly.

Sorry for the late response. It was bothering me too that I couldn't adjust the power settings through windows and had to go through Toshiba's way.

Happy computing...

Thank you so much for the help. You have helped more than one person. I don't consider myself stupid and it was taking me way to long to figure it out.
