Never and soon.

Disregard my red M as I write...

For me, Sony would never get on the list from a personal 20 laptop office disaster and lack of service. Sony also ranked dead last in a recent (months ago) service review.

Toshiba has some static sensitivity issues and I'd put off acquiring any model from them till midyear so I won't have to worry about that.

I have used almost every major brand and presently own an IBM ThinkPad R51. If you are looking for more features for less, then go for Acer TravelMate 4050 Series (more battery life, sleek, features- laden). Its build and construction quality is also much better. Believe me, just try it out and you'll see. Jot down your requirements (present and possible future ones)first. Remember, not all notebooks measure upto the same standards and specifications as advertised or intended to be. If you are willing to throw in extra bucks, then consider IBM.
