After fixing a few webcams I've come down to this. If a load of the factory supplied OS or Drivers does not fix it we either replace the camera (it's likely to be defective) and if the owner won't pay for that then we suggest and external web cam.
I own a NB255 running Windows 7 and I've been having problems with the webcam when using the pre-installed application and other programs like Skype and Oovoo. When I turn on my computer and start using one of these programs, the webcam works at first. After about a minute or so the webcam turns of automatically. For about 10 minutes I find my self constantly clicking the "video chat" button or the "turn on webcam" button. After this 10minutes, the webcam refuses to work completely, even when the little blue light indicates to me that the webcam is on.
I bought this netbook before I go to college and I was extremely upset when I realized how old the hardware was and that the driver's latest update was in 2006. I took it to BestBuy to get the most out of my extremely expensive warranty and they told me that they weren't having problems with the webcam. I took it back and they claimed they fixed it. Now it is 2 months later and I'm assuming that they only tried the webcam for a 30 seconds.
Is anyone else having this problem with this model or other models containing the same hardware? Is there something with the software that I can do to fix this problem?
