Toshiba m35x-s114 Celeron M vs acer 3002lci AMD Sempron?

by zoncat / June 22, 2005 4:58 PM PDT

i'm torn between these 2 computers. I'm leary of the Acer since i'm not familar with that brand..but it has the AMD which I'm partial to and it does have decent reviews.
The Toshiba has the Celeron M processor but I'm wondering if the Acer is a nicer computer. This model has just ok reviews.
does anyone have any suggestions? it is going to be used for basic traveling and not anything else.

would appreciate any opinions
thanks

Look in these forums and elsewhere about Toshiba.

It has me writing to avoid Toshiba till 2006. Type in:
Toshiba Speaker Grill Static into google and you find it.

It's not that Toshiba isn't a great make, its you can ignore them for awhile to let any units with issues to get worked out.

Acer is better than you expect for service. I can vouch for that.

-> What do we get at the Office? Dell. And some of the new 64-bit Compaqs.

Go with the Acer
by NickMets7 / July 21, 2005 8:02 AM PDT

The Acer is MUCH faster than the Toshiba... look no further than here for proof:

The Sempron is a much faster processor, and the 3002 weighs .6 lbs less than the Toshiba. Additionally, the Acer is an easy 100 bucks cheaper (www.TigerDirect.com). Also, if you're lucky to find one, you might get an Acer with a 3000+ CPU (up from 2800+) and a Pioneer DVD+/-RW! Lastly, if you can afford to shell out a few more bucks, I recommend the 3002WLCi. It has XP Pro, 60 GB harddrive, a 15.4" Wide Screen, and 512 MB of ram.

Hope this helps,

- Nick

As long as you never need tech support...
by Nooorm / July 21, 2005 8:55 AM PDT

...either is fine.

I'm always amazed at the people that buy based solely on price and specs. I've never owned nor built a system yet (both my desktop are custom builds) where I didn't need tech support assistance occasional. With a laptop it's especially important.
