For those of you that want a 15.4" widescreen Pentium M notebook and don't want to order custom (and wait) then check out this sale from Sunday 9/5-Saturday 9/11:
Toshiba M35S456. This is normally $1999 retail but it on sale after rebates for $1799 this week at Compusa.
Compusa has some of the worst return policies but if you have been considering this notebook and don't want to order custom consider this deal now. This is $59 less than Best Buy and Fry's Electronics and Circuit City had it for on sale in the past.
It has the 735 Pentium M Dothan (2mb L2 cache) so that gives you up to date performance with Intel Centrino battery life (3.5-4 hours using wi-fi or longer with wi-fi turned off).
The key thing that this Toshiba has that the comparable Acer 2025 and Compaq X1000/HPZT3000 does not is the Trubrite LCD (see this to believe it --very sharp and vibrant(.
This model costs a bit more as it has a multiformat DVD burner/CD burner instead of the CD-RW/DVD ROM many models have ($200 more).
But this notebook is fully loaded and for those of you willing to pay $1799 after rebates it has everything you need
Pentium M 1.7 Dothan 735 processor (2mb L2 system
cache)
80 gb 4200rpm hard drive
54G wi-fi (backwards compatible to B)
Trubrite 15.4" widescreen LCD
64mb Dedicated video Nvidia
multiformat DVD burner (also CD-RW and DVD ROM)
512mb PC2700 RAM
If you want to have a custom configuration then look elsewhere. (order custom at Toshiba websibe or HP/Compaq -- Acer can't be custom ordered).
But if you like these specs this is a great price and you won't find a better fully loaded system for $1799 after rebates (Sony has Xbrite but it will cost hundreds more with the same specs and Sony scored last in notebook and desktop service recently at PCmagazine anyway).
