Question

Toshiba Laptop Win 7 on too small SSD

Mar 19, 2016 10:00AM PDT

I wasn't sure if the Laptop or the Win 7 forum was most appropriate.

I have an older Toshiba Laptop which has a SSD and a HD. Drive C: is the SSD which has Windows 7 installed on it. I've moved user accounts to the HD D: drive and install apps to the D: drive. Even with those steps, I cannot apply updates because the C: drive is full. I've even removed the "sleep mode" file (don't remember what it is called- its been awhile).

What is the best way of moving away from the SSD? Should I move to Win 10 in the process? Toshiba does not seem to have a larger SSD for this laptop, but I'd rather just move to the HD anyway.

Toshiba Satellite A505-S6999
Windows 7 Home Premium OA

Thanks in advance!

Disk cleanup.
Delete and then limit system restore size.
Ccleaner.

Use google for the above.

I don't think you want to put your 'C' drive on a hdd.....it will be like dragging an anchor.
A new 256GB ssd is less than a 100 bucks.

This w7 machine shows the C drive using 25GB.
You've got a lot of stuff on yours.....perhaps it's needed or not.

What are the statistics? How many GB total, used, free?

You can't go from Windows 7 to Windows 10 on a full disk. So you'll have to free enough space.

Sharing that I did an W10 from priot version with a 32GB C

It's one of those tablets with a 32GB C drive and I had to answer one question about where to put the W10 upgrade files and it worked. I now have a tablet with a 32GB C drive on W10.

Since I only did this once I only know to watch the questions when W10 updates start up.

Is your C drive smaller than 32GB?
