Toshiba laptop memory install boot issue.

by travbedaman / December 27, 2007 6:33 AM PST

Hello, my Toshiba a105-s101 notebook had two 256MB memory modules installed. I purchashed 1GB and upgraded one slot(for a total of 1.25 GB..everything was fine. Today I bought another 1GB, but when I installed that..the computer would not boot..the power would come on but it immediately powered off and on 5 times before completely shutting down.

What is strange is that neither 1GB module will boot by itself in either slot unless the other slot has the old 256mb of ram installed. So I know both 1GB units are working. I just want my 2GB ram! lol...Anyone ever heard of this?

But the call to PNY is next to ask if they know why your laptop doesn't like these parts.

Hmmm

Yeah but it doesnt make sense that either stick of the PNY memory will work with one 256MB installed, but the PNY wont work by itself..all the IT guys at work have never seen anything like this either...

In reply to: Hmmm

PNY gets calls like this daily. I don't like to play the odds so I just go with Crucial.
