Toshiba laptop -Cursor skips to different line during typing

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop - probably 5 years old. When typing, I can be typing along fine, then without warning, the cursor will jump to some other line of text. It does not matter what key I'm on. Sometimes it seems to be affected by how long I've been on, but not always.
I looked at removing the keyboard, which I did - then I just put it back together, because I did not know what to do next. I did something like registry fix (I think that was the name), but couldn't see that this had anything to do with it.
Am I looking at replacing the keyboard, or can it be repaired? What can I expect to pay for repair?
thanks in advance.

Could be the mouse pad

Sometimes, you could be accidentally touching the mouse touchpad with the heel of your palm when you're typing, and that relocate the cursor to another line of text. You could try being more careful of that and see if anything changes. Also, I'm not very sure of this at all, but I feel like when my old laptop would get hot, the mouse touchpad would also get hot and very sensitive, and it would react to the slightest touch.

thank you - keyboard skips fixed

Thank you! I think keeping the palms of my hands off the mouse pad has fixed the problem - I really appreciate the suggestion!
