Toshiba Gigabeat MEG201 (US Spec)

Mar 10, 2005 8:58AM PST

Hey. Anyone else have this besides for me? Has anyone ever even heard of this model. I bought it new on ebay, but I can't find it online anywhere. The player came with a US warranty and FCC compliance on the back. The box even had a list of Belkin accessories in it.
When I called Toshiba (US) to find out about wifi compatibility, they kept on sending me to different phone numbers who'se people all had one thing in common: they never heard of the player.
The only thing i've seen on it is that Toshiba was offering it free by mail to anyone who purchased a top of the line Qosmio laptop. I'd guess that the guy I bought it from pulled some kind of scam to get a bunch of em for free, as he sold about ten of them and then stopped. Or maybe he needed a bunch of laptops.
Hmmm....
If you can help me, have any questions about the player or care to comment, please do...
Oh, the player is svelte and excellent, BTW. The only qualm I have is that it adds a .sat extention to all music so you can't take it off the player. It does work as a HDD and if you don't use the Toshiba program or WMP with the drivers to put the music on, you can remove it no problem (for transportation purposes, i guess) but the Gigabeat won't be able to play it. Also, it doesn't play lisenced music (itunes, etc.) as far as i know.

The Toshiba Gigabeat is a wonderful mp3 player. Unfortunately, the software limits its usage because the audio files have to be converted into a .SAT format. The software came with the unit. I have the disk and I can try to send it to you via email.

By the way, the software does not work with Windows XP or above. It runs on Windows 2000 with Windows Media Player 9.

Okay, after years of the Windows XP rejecting the software, tonight it finally accepts it. GO FIGURE!!!!
