Toshiba Gigabeat F40

Aug 24, 2008 4:01AM PDT

I accidentally formatted my Gigabeat and now it comes up with a system error (00000020). I've been trying to locate the software for it considering that I no longer have the CD that came with it.

Any sort of help would be appreciated.

Model No. MEGF40

I wonder if you formatted in NTFS?

If so, format it again in FAT.

Gigabeat error
Sep 18, 2010 7:13PM PDT

I had RockBox installed, and it worked fine for years. Then all of a sudden, it quit working. Re-installed RB, but no luck. So, I re-formatted with Gigabeat several times, all to no avail. Then I decided to format in Windows w/ NT file system. BIG MISTAKE. Now, I get a red and white error screen that says C006720 SYSTEM ERROR with a red X in a white circle. The player is NOT recognised by any computer, running XP, Vista, Windows 7 or Unbuntu 8,9 or 10.
I have 3 F40's, but only 1 has this problem. Other 2 work fine. I'ver searched on line for over a year, with nO luck. Called Toshiba, they can't help (big surprise). They told me to call Tops electronics, since it's out of warranty. They want $63 to fix it. Consiering that these were $250 orgiginally, I think it may be worth it. Haven't been able to find a solution for it yet. With ERROR screen, player won't turn off with power button, but have to turn it off with the switch on the bottom. I wish this thing had a re-set button like some players.
