Toshiba Camileo HD won't turn on,please help.

It is a multifunctional device,so when I bought a memory card,I stored some 600 mb of music on it,and I listened to it quite often.I also took a considerable amount of photos and video material, and it all functioned well, until one day it just didn't want to turn on.I tried recharging the battery, and the red light that indicates charging is in progress was on,but wasn't flashing(on and of) like it used to when I was recharging the battery.
Do you think my camcorder is fine, and that I should only buy a new battery?
I'm sceptical about taking it to a service for repair, because I live in a small town, and don't trust workers in photo shops here. They could unintetionaly cause more harm,if the only problem is a dead battery.
If it counts for anything,it is a Li-ion battery,1050 mAh.Could a battery of that capacity be "dead" after 3-4 months of everyday use?
