Toshiba a70

Mar 23, 2005 3:21PM PST

Hello,

I'm about to purchase my first laptop. I also have an HP desktop (which I do not love) This is why I'm going with Toshiba and avoiding both HP and Compact

I have a bunch of questions.
*Is there anything anyone knows about this one- important?
*Is this the latest version- or a recently upgraded model?
*Glitched?
*Battery Life?
*Reliability?
*Speed?
*It is a P4- I heard the new- forget the name is out- does it matter that much?
*Customer Service: says officially has a manufacters warranty for a year. What does this mean exactly?
*I love multi-tasking having quite a few big programs at once open-can't help myselfWink Is this performance not enough for this- breakdown, slow down a bit?
*Experience with Toshiba laptops?
*Finally- It has a very basic sound card- how easy is it to uprgrade (not physically myself but compatability wise)

The pluses for me is the widescreen.

If anyone has any answer to any/all of these questions , I will greatly appreciate it.

Thanks very much

Did you notice other Toshiba posts here?

Not just this forum, but the stories of lockups continue. It's a fine brand, but I'd wait till Toshiba figures out the issue and the machines in the pipe clear out. What more can I do?

Thanks-

I suppose I'll read more.

I was under the impression Toshiba was good- guess not.

What about Dell.....Wink?

Just they have this issue this year and my advice is to not bother with them until they sort it out. Why would you want such a headache?

The office has dozens of (boring) Dells. Boring can be a good.

I have an A70... it was a great system for about 36 hours...then I had to reformat... it worked great for about 3 weeks when it starting switching to battery power for no reason... then the AC adapter quit working all together... Toshiba tech support is great as long as you don't need them to speak english and their call back dept who handles waranty work request (so I have been told) is supposed to call in 24 hours... don't hold your breath I waited 4 days... they were supposed to call me back again...still waiting.
