Resolved Question

Toshiba A215-S4757 vistx32 to W7 x64 new install issues

Sep 7, 2011 10:12AM PDT

Had all known drivers from Toshiba website installed and all appeared well...for a few days.....presently if you walk away and laptop shuts down upon wake up the whole screen has white horizontal lines and makes a screeching sound like tuning old AM radio.

I want to keep W,7 fan does not run as often and battery life is better etc so really want to get this resolved.

Thanks for any tidbits......

"Freezing and BSOD during wake ups from sleep and/or hibernation. My
Nephew also said it is doing it randomly but This is all I could
reproduce and the only event log that seems to indicate any real issues.

Log Name: System
Source: Microsoft-Windows-WHEA-Logger
Date: 6/9/2010 3:34:54 PM
Event ID: 18
Task Category: None
Level: Error
Keywords:
User: LOCAL SERVICE
Computer: DJ-PC
Description:
A fatal hardware error has occurred.

Reported by component: Processor Core
Error Source: Machine Check Exception
Error Type: Unknown Error
Processor ID: 1"

It appears the only workaround is to never use sleep. Use HIBERNATE instead.

It's over in Control Panel, Power.

I had a similar unit and "What the buttons do" area was changed from sleep to hibernate.

There was a thought to disable the second CPU core (that's over in the Performance area under number of cores but varies with machines) but I think that's a rough workaround.
