Topic idea: Streaming media over home LAN's

by robear2k7 / September 7, 2006 11:41 PM PDT

I'm a networking savvy guy, and I'm interested in somthing like the Squeezebox to stream my digital audio over my home LAN (wifi). BUT... I'm not too clear on what kind of experience to expect when I actually get a device set up!

* Can I play all my audio formats?
* Can they handle DRM?
* What's the stream quality REALLY like over 802.11g?
* How do I browse the media with the receiver?
* Will it integrate with my iTunes library?
* Will it work with my Mac?
* Can it handle multiple iTunes libraries on different computers?
* Does the computer have to be logged in or just turned on for the streaming to work?

Help Tom!

Set up a NAS device to store all your media files.

That will give you access to your media from anywhere that your network reaches. And if your feeling generous, plug it into a WiFi AP/router and serve up free movies/music to all your neighbours. Just watch out for the RIAA/MPAA.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
