I think you need to create a new template for this to be saved.
Word looks up document settings in the normal.dot templae whenever you start the program, and I believe it is Normal.dot that stores all the margin settings, and possibly even the toolbar settings.
You could try this;
Do a search for Normal.dot on your computer and any that you find, change the name to a temporary name. Remember what and where you have changed.
Open up Word, (a new Normal.dot will be created), and make your changes and In the Save as type box, click Document Template.
You can save as Normal.dot, or even a diffrent name and then in Tools > Options, see if you can default from Normal.dot to your new template.
There are options about templates in the Tools menu, and help in the Office Assistant under "How to create a template?", but this is something I have never really done before, so good luck if you decide to try it.

I tried searching the forums, but couldn't find anything to help. I could find normal.dot on my computer anywhere.
Each time I open MS Word (2003 I believe, but it had the same problems with XP). I change the default margins and add some buttons to the toolbar. I even click default for the margins. Everytime I open it, things are back to where they started. The buttons are gone, the margins have changed back (on new documents). The buttons are even gone for saved documents.
Any help would be most appreciated.
Thanks,
Jim S.
