If there a website that more readily explains all the toolbars out there that maybe a source of virus or malware? I find it increasing a source of concern, since new s/w installs so readily want to install a toolbar. Further, when you go remove it, some want to be web-based before they finish their removal or uninstall. Some are so clingy they remove easily. TIA ------Willy ![]()

It's not that I "want" a toolbar but find that toolbars are causing problems. Users, can't or won't allow themselves the time to protect against their install because they don't slow down enough to see that they can uncheck the toolbar install. -OR- Should a toolbar get installed and it allows itself or other malware to become part of an infestation or troubling actions that NOW the users sees the light because it does something it didn't do before. Further, if the user uses the WWW to find fixes or cures, the uninstalled toolbar may direct or redirect web searches to even more malware of doubtful fixes. Go figure, then they call me... Each one is different and not always easy to return back to normal at least in a timely fashion. BTW, I just finished cleaning a PC of this very problem, they had 5 toolbars...WHY? Thus, asking if aa website may cover more than one bad toolbars with actions to correct it.

We should have a contest with a modest reward about "How many toolbars did the user install?"
Thanks for your always helpful posts.

Willy...
I don't know what you're looking for (or why) but..........
Prior to Donna's untimely passing, she kept up a list at her website called the "Installers Hall of Shame ((Unwanted add-on). I don't know if it's current. But it may be worth a look.

Again thanks for Donna's old link. It was showing the bad experiences some users may have. I did find it troubling that the bottom of webpage a link to "speedmaxpc" toolbar remover. That looks like yet another website offering fixes but really is nothing more than a optimizer which in turn doesn't do anything unless you pay. Which is also the actions of many links given for fixes of any X-toolbar or other problems that can be fixed if you use thier pgm. In turn these are usually worthless, or dubious especially if they report a huge amount of possible corrections. These are the same actions or results malware or dishonest s/w vendors.
FYI, don't use speedmaxpc until you review what some have experienced. ------Willy ![]()
