Too much thermal paste!!!

Jan 25, 2015 12:32AM PST

I always seem to find faults with the lower-end units such as those from Wal-Mart. Not all of the problems I see are caused by poor quality hardware. Some are caused by poor workmanship.

I had another Wal-Mart Acer laptop in not working. I pulled it apart and they had put so much more thermal paste on the CPU than was required. It looked like someone squeezed out an entire tube on top of the CPU and it went everywhere. A good washing and cleaning in alcohol seems to have resolved the issue as did the correct amount of heatsink compound.
