RE: keep getting rich while 'serving the people'.
Mar 20, 2020 5:47AM PDT

Burr said

he assured the public that “the United States today is better prepared than ever before to face emerging public health threats, like the coronavirus.” He wrote, “No matter the outbreak or threat, Congress and the federal government have been vigilant in identifying gaps in its readiness efforts and improving its response capabilities.”

Sounds much the same as what DJT said....Too bad the public doesn't have access to Trumps financial dealings...HE could be in the same boat as Burr....

Per the news I've been following from the start,
Mar 20, 2020 6:11AM PDT

the only words that Barr's statement and reality have in common are a, and, and the.
You're not alone, though. The one characteristic lacking with most of the world's leaders in the COVID crisis is ... leadership. In every case this led to a wider spread, more deaths, and a greater crisis now.

In the case of the only other leader you care about,
Mar 20, 2020 7:51PM PDT

Trump's early (in)actions were exactly like Xi's, except:
>He had Xi's bad example in front of him.
>Xi has powers that Trump lacks.*
>He had advisers who could speak up without fear for their lives, and some did so. To no effect.
Look back over the track records of those alleged democracies who had 'leaders for life' at the time. Start with Zimbabwe- if you can stand the pain.

* So far. Look up the number of alleged democracies whose constitutions had term limits for their top leader, say five years ago. Compare with the number now. (Add Russia any day now.)

In both those cases, and others elsewhere, early inaction has led to key parts of the crises the world faces now. E.g. Trump will use 'war powers' to increase supplies of masks, but that's always the least efficient, most expensive way to accomplish anything. Big government, remember?

inaction but fail miserably at giving examples of it because there is massive amounts of proof that he has acted faster than any other president (or leader of other countries), including shutting down travel from China within 10 days. You are completely leaving out the fact that China lied from the gitgo about it, refused to allow any of our CDC people in to help and get data for our country, and now we learn that Russia and Iran have both been lying about THEIR cases as well. OUR leader can only make good decisions quickly IF other countries are honest about what's happening in their own country, especially when this virus STARTED there. China KNEW that there was a severe virus going on in Whuhan (sp), STILL allowed a massive party of over 10K people there, and then allowed those people to LEAVE the country for parts around the world.....all while knowing they COULD have contained it right then and there. AND 'disappeared' everyone, including doctors, who were trying to get the word out to the world.

Trump wouldn't be having to spend the money he's allocating toward this, including enacting the DPA at this point (not for masks but for PRODUCTION here in the USA for medical supplies and medicines) if China hadn't tried to cover it up in the first place, with the help of Russia and Iran.

Most of my relevant posts contain links to news agencies worldwide that gave and continue to give examples of Trump's diversions and misstatements. Dated.
I read them, you didn't. Not reading them leaves you ignorant. Reading and denying leaves you ...

Your posting links to worldwide news agencies without noting your own feelings/opinions on the veracity of those articles is a rather empty shell...IMO, anyway. I'm not one to read and accept solely on the news source knowing that so much of what's written is carefully crafted for a purpose other than just providing information. My two cents.

So: Let it be known! I, (state your name) having to choose which type of media to use, choose the type that doesn't make me feel dirty afterward.
Including but not limited to BBC, AP, Reuters, CBS. (I used to follow al Jazeera until it proved itself shoddy. Same with WaPo.)
I also prefer CBS TV news for its deeper coverage, but I still get most off the 'Net.

https://www.bbc.com/news/av/51920963/coronavirus-trump-blames-media-for-virus-spread
in another thread.
So the opener suggests that Trump is blaming the media for spreading the virus...or is there another interpretation of that verbiage that suits better? I don't think that's the case unless they want to claim that sheer number of media persons out there buttonholing politicians to get their stories makes them potential carriers of the disease...in which case, they already have a solution in their own hands.

When one listens to enough of Trump's press conferences, his criticism is mainly of their sensationalizing of issues and their asking so many rhetorical questions that are, IMO, often designed as traps. This isn't news coverage that can be viewed as valuable to the public though it might be valuable to enhancing a reporter's career.
Personally, I think it's well past time stop wasting time focusing on political issues and on taking care of ourselves and each other. There has been plenty of reasonable medical advice out there and I trust that the better part of our secular leaders will do far better by listening to these people and encouraging citizens follow practices stated by them.

RE:including shutting down travel from China within 10 days.
Mar 21, 2020 4:42AM PDT

Within 10 days of "what"

Within 10 days of exactly what event?....give everyone a date, so they know how quickly you believe DJT acted.

I'll get you started....

January 22nd: Trump is asked about the coronavirus at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Days earlier the first case of the coronavirus was detected in the U.S., in a man who had returned to Seattle from a trip to China earlier in January.

“No, not at all. We have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China, and we have it under control,” Trump told CNBC. “It’s going to be just fine.

February 23rd: Speaking to reporters on the White House lawn: “We have it very much under control in this country.”

I realize you are not a big fan of providing "links" but in THIS instance PLEASE try and provide a "link" that shows YOUR timeline of YOUR version of events.

If you don't have the ability of find a link PLEASE provide YOUR version of shutting down travel from China within 10 days.

Within 10 days of "which event"? All those deaths in Italy? Was that YOUR event?

Jan 22, 2020 to Feb 23, 2020......isn't that more than 10 days?

AND all HE did on Feb 23, 2020 was deny that there was a problem.

I chose that story because it's new, it covers a lot of ground, AND because there are a couple of other walkbacks in it. Already.
BTW with Trump the 'walked back' is his statement- never publicly corrected- while the 'walker back' is a hapless aide. Or Veep.

Bill's quote of Burr on virology.

I pointed out that US responses to the virus- after it was seen as a threat but before necessary* actions were taken- were far from the superhero actions Barr imagines.

* Necessary, because those are the actions now being taken by CinC Trump. The virus hasn't changed- but it has moved, as did the previous plagues Gen. Trump now references so blithely.
In both countries the doctors knew and reported; the leaders ignored them.

"Too bad the public doesn't have access to Trumps financial dealings...HE could be in the same boat as Burr...." Are you insinuating that Trump got richer off this virus? You are accusing the president of insider trading without anything to back it up; whereas Burr has been shown to have actually done it, much like many others in Congress have done over decades.

Please stop politically making assumptions you can't back up, JP, just because you don't like someone by making statements like "He COULD be". It's disgusting and totally without merit. Stay on topic. Your 'quote' from Burr didn't even MENTION my topic at hand. At least try to find something he's saying to deny it or squirm his way out.

Not sure if my old .wab file from OE can even still be opened with anything from Windows 10 in order to get some of those and print it out, but I'm going to try that route since I have it on an external hard drive.

Mar 20, 2020 7:45AM PDT

Burr is known by the company HE keeps?

YOU should be supporting him. Hillary hater AND a Trumpet...what else could YOU want?

From 02/27/2017 So THEY have been having an affair for a few years.

The senator running the Russia probe was a vocal Trump campaign backer, once boasting he sicced the FBI on Hillary Clinton.

the third-term senator is under fire for running interference for the White House last week on a news report asserting repeated contacts between Trump’s campaign and Moscow. And some Democrats are wondering whether Burr, who also served as a national security adviser to Trump’s campaign, is too close to Trump to lead an impartial investigation .

Burr campaigned with Trump in Winston-Salem and stuck by the real-estate mogul even as other Republican senators dropped their support after a video surfaced of Trump in 2005 bragging about groping women.

Does DJT seem like the kinda' guy that stands by and watch others achieve financial gains from HIS words and proclamations without wanting a piece of THAT pie?

He sold in February
Mar 20, 2020 6:48AM PDT

Knowledge about coronavirus, aka COVID-19, aka SARS-cov2, aka "China Flu", aka "Wuhan Flu", was already known and reported back in January, so he's legally OK so far as SEC would be concerned, since it was already public knowledge. Now, if he violate some Congressional rules or not, I don't know.

He may not be off the hook
Mar 20, 2020 7:01AM PDT

quite yet since, although the virus was already 'known' by public knowledge, it wasn't being reported very much because everyone was still heavily covering the impeachment (or lack thereof) and the Dem debate garbage going on. The only criticism coming heavily in the news was when Trump shut down the travel from China to the USA but even then the media wasn't reporting how much this virus was going to impact the economy to where the public themselves could start heavily selling off before things got out of control. He fully had that knowledge early and took advantage of it....just makes me wonder how many others did, too, and haven't been investigated for it yet? Do you have any info on how early in Feb he sold it?

I watch
Mar 20, 2020 7:24AM PDT

China Uncensored and also NTD on Youtube often, know about this new virus myself back in January, and was already watching the John Hopkins site, till it started having problems at times, and then switched over to the worldometer site on corona virus instead, which also can let you line up which column you want to. I also like watching laowhy86 and serpentza videos on youtube, one guy from America, the other from South Africa, both lived in China over 10 years and also married to wives from there. It was quite widely reported in January. In fact I was watching the videos of the Diamond Princess situation when it was docked at Yokohama, and the blogs from David and Sally Abel during that time and then in hospital, and finally about last weekend they were released and returned home to UK. Insider trading means using knowledge that hasn't been published yet to base trades on, information that would be limited to a few "insiders" only.
