Too many choices

I am looking to purchase a new laptop, but I am getting frustrated with the vast amount of computers there is to choose from. I read reviews and ask friends but they always seem to give me different information. Can someone please give me a general consensus on a few laptops that would be good for daily use, internet browsing, ebay, playing a game every once in a while, and most importantly, one that will not become incredibly and unbearable slow after just 1 year of use. I appreciate your input.

What a nice dilemna to face! Ask all the right qestions: What can I afford? Where can I get tech support if needed? Are you willing to do normal maintainace or are you the type that drives a vehicle and never maintains it, then gets all bent out of shape when something fails because of your neglect? Do you have an existing docking station that would have to be replaced? Will your old printer run on Windows 7 or the OS you plan to own? What are your uses? Just the things mentioned - ebay, email, browsing? How about Home Business? In the last 20 years I have owned Toshiba, Dell, Sony and HP. I have had 14", 15", and 17" laptops. I have not had a bad one yet. I have had three hard drive failures but that was due to several thousand hours of use. I have upgraded memory in all but my latest 14" HP Pavillion. Are you willing to spend a bit more and have a store help you match one to your needs? Sounds like you are a risk avoider with a lot of difficulty making decisions! Have you learned to trust a reliable source or are you just looking for "what is wrong with _________?"
