General discussion

too cheap? (macbook pro)

Jul 16, 2007 10:26PM PDT

Look at this macbook pro http://www.zapp-e.com/apmaproma15n.html
I was thinking of getting a macbook from the apple store but then I saw this. It is the same price but much better (better cpu, graphics, ram and more). Is it really refurbished? Could it be risky buying this? Or should I just get a macbook from the apple store?

Thank you

I recently saw 2 factory sealed macbook pros on e-bay.

Both were for sale as one lot of two items... with no reserve. The seller wanted only a cashiers check or money order for payment. The seller had a very positive rating after 60+ sales and their location was listed as Brooklyn, NY.

I was suspicious of the deal. especially with only an hour left on the items, 20+ bids, and the price was just reaching a thousand bucks. I suspect the laptops had "fallen" off a truck someplace if the deal was really available. Who knows? Maybe someone got a heck of a deal... or someone sent a cashiers check and is still sitting at home wondering when their purchase will arrive?

Fallen off a truck and then this happens.

It needs repair and you take it in. They run the numbers and find it's stolen. You lose big time.

Don't get taken advantage of.

How scammers can rip you off on eBay with fake feedback
Oct 2, 2007 8:23AM PDT

The 60+ feedback rating unfortunately is most likely from hijacking someone else's site and using it to divert the money to themselves. Another way to tell is to check and see if the feedback is made up of many small purchases made just to get feedback.

My site was hijacked twice on eBay. I am really careful now.
