To remove the Lycos SideSearch - there is MORE to do!
Uninstall Lycos SideSearch from "Add/Remove Programs" in the Windows
I'm really desperate!! So, I'd greatly appreciate any help.
Recently, I have been getting truckloads of spyware on my computer. (I think it might be from downloading some innocent desktop theme from a somewhat seedy-looking place.) This makes it so that when I log onto the internet, popups constantly appear, even when I'm not surfing the web. Also, the popups seem to be geared towards what I surf for, and whenever I search for something, the Lycos SideSearch pops up. (It's this evil thing that searches for what you were searching in Lycos and shows its results). Plus, recently Internet Explorer has been freezing and crashing every 10 or so pages I go to.
A couple of weeks ago, my Norton Antivirus said that my computer was infected with a virus called Trojan.Chost and that it was unable to remove it. Around that point, my internet starting acting psycho. Recently, I updated my Norton Antivirus definitions and ran a virus check. It did not find Trojan.Chost, but it found Trojan.ByteVerify (or something like that). It couldn't remove it, so I quarantined it. Then, I ran Ad-aware 6.0 and Spybot (Search and Destroy) and I deleted everything that they turned up. I also went into Add/Remove Programs and removed everything that sounded like a piece of spyware (the only one I can remember right now is 404Search, and I deleted Lycos search). I turned off my computer and turned it back on, and voila - nothing has changed, and I still have just as many popups and crashes! Also, I think many of the programs returned.
Why, oh why? Please help me!
