So, MobileMe works, but for me, it works very slowly. Using it is somewhat of a pain right now. .Mac was quick and reliable for the most part, but now its successor is not. On top of that, iTunes servers were/are down all around because of the mass amount of iPhone upgrades and activations. Plus, I can't access the new iPod Touch firmware through any of the links on Apple's site or through my iPod's updater either. What a great day. Too bad that I already downloaded some applications. Ironic that the App Store is working fine while I can't get the software to actually use it.

Anyone else getting a less-than-spectacular experience too?

I've also tried downloading the new firmware with no luck for my ipod touch, better luck tomorrow?
In the future, apple should plan this a little better...

I have not been able to access MobileMe but did manage to download the 2.0 software for the iPhone via iTunes.
I chose Download only as I had read that the phone needs access to Apple to reactivate after the update.

Must admit that Apple did not do themselves much good with this debacle of a launch. With hindsight, maybe MobileMe should have been in place, with the bugs ironed out, prior to launch.

New iPod Firmware is now out for me

In reply to: Success

And I am in the process of downloading. I anxiously await using the remote and other apps. I've waited a long time for this, like so many others, who wanted to install more apps without hacking their devices, and I must say, I think it has paid off.

MobileMe has been working for awhile over here, but today, it has actually sped up some. What bothers me is that there is supposedly an update called "MobileMe 1.1" that replaces all .Mac references and the like with MobileMe. With that installed, I would have MobileMe listed in my preferences, and not .Mac. However, I have no access whatsoever to the update; Software Update finds nothing. What is interesting is the .Mac preference pane is acting normally, save syncing data, and accessing account information brings me straight to my MobileMe account page. Talk about integration.

I just need that update to appear and my iPod to finish up. Everything should be great once it all starts working. I just wish that I could go straight to my Mail pane instead of my iDisk when I login online... that is quite annoying.

That update

will appear if you go to System Preferences, .Mac and log in to your .Mac account.

It will then inform you that .mac is now MobileMe, (you surely did not know this!) and that you should go to software update and download a file.

I just did it and, like you, Software update did not find anything before I attempted to sync via the .Mac System Preference

Perfect

In reply to: That update

I had tried that during the actual transition, and of course, nothing happened, but now it worked perfectly. MobileMe has replaced .Mac on my computer now. Thanks for the tip.

The new firmware is absolutely amazing. It's hard to describe. There hasn't been anything like this before, as we all know, and Apple did it right. Tetris and Super Monkey Ball are quite entertaining, and difficult I might add, and the other apps I have downloaded installed perfectly on it. It is quite incredible to watch a program download and install itself in a matter of seconds like that. I like the Remote app, but Tetris really got my attention. Those games are power hogs though. I drained about half of my battery playing them. AIM is interesting, but I wish I could have multiple accounts at a time on it. I don't think I can do that. Other small, useful apps are very good, and they help enrich the platform. It's a good time to be in the developer business.

MobileMe has been working much better today, and I must say that past all of the server problems, Apple (and the other developers) did an excellent job. I hope everyone else enjoys all of this as much as I do.
