i would imagine up to the elbow....
i'm glad he's OK Cindi!
We got a telephone call from our son today, after not hearing a word from him in nearly a month. As he was calling or emailing every 2 or 3 days, I was getting worried.
He has been involved in operation Matador (the Syrian border insurgents operation). Boy, I'm glad I didn't know ahead of time, or my fingernails would be chewed to the second knuckle!
It was good to know he's alive, and safe. Not much else matters.

...and I hope he comes home safely and soon.
My BIL was in the Gulf War, in Special Services so he wasn't allowed to write home. He couldn't do anything that might reveal where he was (inside Iraq before we had officially gone in). I can only imagine what it's like as a parent even though I know as a more distant relative.
Offering a prayer of Thanksgiving!
I can understand your sense of relief !
When you next contact Chris, would you tell him I truly thank him for his service and conducting that very important mission !
God Bless him, you and your family, and the troops!
