750
Jan 26, 2009 2:19PM PST

mtbmtb01,

The color seperation issue has been experienced on this forum in a few posts, and those who have been affected have had the issue resolved by Samsung replacing the bezel.

The same goes for the "halo" effect. Some of the televisions had a "halo" effect when viewed in very dark rooms. While the reviews are mixed on the fixes we've provided, I would say that most are satisfied. If you look around this forum (search TOC or halo in this forum at the top of the page), you'll see some of the experiences here.

The A750 is a great set, and many people here have also noted that they enjoy it tremendously.

Ultimately, you have to do what you are most comfortable doing. I recommend looking around to see what people say about it.

new sets have replacement bezel?

so do the newer sets already have the replacement bezel (if so what date code would have them) or does Samsung have to replace the bezel after purchase?

Replacement bezel?
Feb 1, 2009 9:12AM PST

mtbmtb01,

The replacement bezel will have gone on newer units; however, there isn't a way to determine which unit any person could receive by the information outside of the box (or inside, for that matter). So most people today, I would guess, would have one of the newer bezels. If it's a problem, give us a call and we'll come out and replace it.

750 series Halo effect Failed service attempt.
Feb 6, 2009 4:40AM PST

Today, 2/06/09 Samsung service here in NYC came with a new Frame aka p-cover assembly. It did not do anything to remedy the Halo effect...annoying light transfer to outer edges of the TOC frame.

The Tech, did acknowledge what I saw as we turned down the lights to completely darken the room. The effect is as the repair was never done. He made calls to Samsung as well as his parts dept...there is NO other Frame part number except #BN96-07074A.

WHAT GIVES Samsung????????????????????????????????????????
Do I now return this 6 month old $3K TV for exchange of same or upgrade model??
I started a ticket on this service issue when I first bought this 52 inch 750 series and only recently have yu acknowledged the defect and offered to replace the TOC Frame...then to find the issue NOT RESOLVED!
Will yu make good on a replacement TV now? My only option in my opinion.
How many times must I disconnect and take this 52 inch off my wall mount remove every jack connection from my maxxed out Home Theater for the Technician till Samsung gets it right.
I prefer to be paid for being a guinea pig.
In all seriousness. Help me out.
BTW, in all honesty, my Technician was excellent, knowledeable and professional for what it is worth in any event.

Thanx in advance for a prompt reply. Happy

Regarding Frame replacement... Halo fix
Feb 8, 2009 12:28AM PST

When the Tech replaced my Frame( with one that did NOT correct the Halo effect), I now notice dimples along the whole TOC frame where the screws were attached behind this Frame. It is esthetically poor. Apparently, when these Frames are installed at the production level, they are more precise when installing(no over tightening).

When these Frames are replaced "In Home" it is hard to control fit and finish of this TOC Frame using regular hand tools by any Technician or Field Engineer.
I any event there are DIMPLES in my TOC frame completely around my Current Frame. It is horrible.

Some more food for thought to others with the Halo Issue. SOMETHING TO LOOKOUT FOR. Be meticulous and inspect the new Frame before your Tech. leaves and document it. Even if the Halo is gone, yu must consider if yu will accept the Quality of the repair!

The replacement is very elaborate, It is almost essentially like doing a complete LCD panel replacement. A 75% complete disection of the whole TV!!! And I observed and helped my Tech do it. He needed a hand. It is NOT a one man job on a 52" TV. One person alone can easily damage the Panel.

Halo experience.
Feb 6, 2009 11:12PM PST

If yu just recieved the 750... completely darken the viewing room and watch fast moving bright video source. Yu will either see the light from the video/picture bleed/transfer to the outer edges of the TOC Frame or yu won't. Even if it is slightly there, yu definitely have an issue. Period. Depending on your sitting postion and proximity to the TV yu will encounter this Halo effect on oat leat one or two edges of the TOC Frame.
Hope this helps

Please reply..Halo fix
Feb 6, 2009 11:36PM PST

It seems that yu cannot provide much support here on this issue because yu constantly refer people "back" to 800-Samsung.
I am awaiting a reply from yu. I must assume that yu have avenues of information that 800-Samsung is not divulging to us 750 owners.

Maybe I should not assume much??
Please correct me and refer to my post of 2/06/09. I need a definitive response ASAP. Please.

Is it possible that yu merely represent "Samsungs damage Control Team"? The more I read here since Sept. I find this to be true.
I am good at reading between the lines. Happy

HDbuff,

If you don't feel I can provide much support for this issue, then your best bet is to go to someone who can.

The additional avenue I can recommend is 800-SAMSUNG and ask for the Executive Customer Service Department. They handle these issues.

I appreciate the feedback, and I'm sorry I couldn't assist further in this.

Halo Issue response
Feb 7, 2009 10:37PM PST

Samsung_HD_Tech,

Thanx for the fast reply.

I have been in contact with the Exec. level CS dept. @ (800) Samsung. Supervisors and all. I need a definitive answer on this rather old issue/service ticket.

I have exhausted all avenues and that's why I came to yu for help.

I am in limbo with them. They claim they will call me back with a decision...however every couple of days it is I that must initiate the call to them! I always get a different person who wants my story recanted ..when they supposedly have this info right in front of them.

Appreciate your honesty though. I just felt that yu could be more specific and forthcoming with real info.
Most of us here already know how to contact Samsung and have been that route...ultimately we end up here...only to be redirected back to 800-Samsung? Please excuse my frustration. Any reasonable person would feel the same.

My 52" A750 now sits in the middle of my viewing room, off my Wall Mount... room is off limits now... till Samsung makes a very slow and calculated decision. I'm stuck.

Maybe I should have chose a Visio FP sink to complement my $18K+ Home Theater???

Update Halo Effect issue
Feb 8, 2009 1:25AM PST

A recent call to 800-Samsung with a question about the Halo defect as a potential buyer of the A750 series... Cust support actually told me that the Halo "Flickering" of the Frame was a "Feature" NOT a Defect!!!

What gives Samsung. Your Reps. don't understand your products or your features.

I corrected this Rep. and pointed to the specific A750 "Halo" FAQ on their web site that indicates this issue "requires repair"... and minutes later he came back and said some people "Love" this Feature of the TOC frame. That not to buy this model if I don't like it.

This is the third time I got this response in 6 months.

Very Poor Public Relations on Samsungs part.

Will Samsung offer to reimberse Calibration?
Feb 8, 2009 12:09AM PST

Does Samsung care to absorb my Calibration Service ($375) if they get me a replacement of same A750 or upgrade model?

I doubt it.
I waited several months of burn-in before I actually had it calibrated. This is the correct way to calibrate. But I should have not done it. I lose in the end. The Calibration Serv. Tech. did say he would discount my second one since it was fairly recent.

Just food for thought to other Samsung owners who do calibrate their sinks.

Color Separation vs Halo effect????
Feb 7, 2009 11:44PM PST

These are two distinct separate issues.
The Halo effect can only be addressed by replacing the Frame/Bezel aka "P-Cover" with a Correct Improved one. The Halo Effect is merely a physical construction design defect.

The Color Separation issue that some have encountered is in fact not pertaining to the Halo effect and cannot be addressed with the Frame replacement.
It is probably a firmware/processor(DNIE) related ...in any event these two issues are not one in the same with the same repair being a fix.

remember me? i was the original poster. i got my new set (made in jan 2009 in mexico) and no halo or cracking, but i am unhappy with the color. just looks washed out when i compare it to my 50" pioneer 5070 plasma. any suggestions? I've tried a calibration disc (which apparently will only work on my DVD source since it is on DVD) and looking at recommended settings on av forum.
also how do i tell if it's the better s panel. it has an s in the top right coner of the white tag that list the date code.

Feb 16, 2009 1:22AM PST

i use 2 of the hdmi slots, one for my hd directtv, one for my dvd (samsung ht-hdp40) and since direct tv doesn't offer my local channels in hd, i use an antenna for the locals.
i was thinking of replaceing the dvd with a blu ray (maybe the 1500 model). will it play standard dvd's better than the upscaling on the p40?

Color
Feb 16, 2009 4:25AM PST

I wonder why you're having difficulties getting the colors to where you want them. I'm kind of at a loss as to why your HD isn't showing up properly.

Both the p40 and BD-P1500 will upscale DVD's, and I'm not sure if you're going to see a significant difference between the two - it's still a 480 (SD) source that will have upscaling limitations, but will probably look awesome with a Blu-Ray player.

The BD-P2500/50 does have the HQV processor, which IMO, does a better job of upscaling - sort of a "name brand" processor, which might be a better solution.

Many retailers have the BD-P1500 hooked up to a Samsung panel - you might go in and give the 1500 a test run on the panel you own so that you know what you're getting. From testing it, you'll probably be able to determine if it will best meet your needs, and maybe see if the 2500 (or 2550) does a better job.

If your panel still looks bad after a Blu-Ray movie, I might consider suggesting having a tech look at it. It's worrisome that even your HD channels don't have a robust color to them.

For your info. and others..
Feb 15, 2009 10:43PM PST

The two 52" TOC Frames/Bezels (aka P-Cover)that were installed on two separate service attempts had Production dates of December 2008 and most recently January 29, 2009.
There was No change/reduction with the Halo Effect.
Part numbers were still the same. No # change or revision is referenced to these new Frames that shows them to be a "Non-Halo Effect" part.
In fact, very close examination shows that the original Frame is identical to the second and third in all physical aspects.

I can also go to any Store and also observe the Halo effect on any 46" and 52" A750 that is currently out there.(40" A750 is not affected) I wonder why! Sad It's hard to believe that Samsung really corrected it.
Trying to help. Thinking out of the box. Happy

patiently waiting... :)
Feb 21, 2009 9:54PM PST

Samsung ECR and Home Service Network appear to have things mixed up.
Samsung discussed getting an RMA worked out with P.C. Richard's. That it would take a week to get paper work channeled back to the exact store where purchased so I could get a full refund.

Yet,Home Srvice Nework have created a NEW service ticket # 4003184211.
And emailed me that I would get a 2/17/09 date of service for this new ticket number.
I called..had to leave a message...and they never called me back!

Don't know why they are still in the loop???? Are they bringing me my new LN55A950? Happy doubt it. But why this new ticket number?

I did go to the store and spoke to the manager and gave them a heads up. I lso discussed pricing on the A950. Store is still waiting on Samsungs RMA to authorize the return of this 7 month old A750.

I sent your new number as an ammendment to the last one. I specifically asked for a call back for last week if at all possible.

Again, I'm not an intergrated part of service, so I have to ask where this is. I'm assuming progress is being made, but I've followed up again, and hopefully they'll have an answer for you soon. Let me know by Wednesday Evening if you haven't heard anything.

I appreciate your patience.

I apologize for the Name mix up. I try hard to force my self NOT to do that. This is My username(partially) elsewhere on another site.

Update: ECR/Exchange/refund dept.is ultimately responsible for sending an RA # and paperwork to P.C.Richards. As of yesterday the store has not recieved the Fax. I ask Samsung to Fax me directly. To no avail. I do have the RA# 60716021. Given verbally by Samsung ECR.

I forwarded this RA# directly to The Store but they also need Samsungs fax. This was claimed to have been faxed on Monday Feb. 23. Yet numerous calls to PCR show they don't have it. I confirmed the phone and fax numbers that Samsung has. all is correct.

BTW I would like to replace this 52A750 with the New LN55B8000 LED THIN panel that's soon to be available .
Can yu tell me when this will be released. I'm having a hard time getting P.C.R to coordinate this purchase. It all rests on Samsungs official release date. Are these new FP's under "lock and Key" in a held inventory ??? Are they actually in production/inventoried as of yet. Hope I don't have to wait till June!!
I know yu are busy with others but if yu could find out for me, this will help me move on to another great Samsung FP.

Feb 27, 2009 3:11PM PST

hdbuff,

I would follow up with ECR and have them fax it back over (make sure to have the retailer's fax number handy as maybe an extra precaution) to the retailer. The RA number may need to be processed by the retailer, and that's all way above my head.

I don't have release dates. Let me see if I can ask what the general timeframe might be - I may be able to speak on that a little. But naturally, because our competitors and media forum members are here, I'm not sure how much information I'll be at liberty to discuss. Hopefully we can get this issue ironed out so you can enjoy your television.

I've signed business emails with --HDTech instead of my regular name. It really becomes an habit.

I don't need or want to make your job any harder than it is on that board.
Not my intent. But, I am am a real Consumer Advocate when it come these products. (This is where I get into trouble.) I deal with these products alot. So, I tend to be cut and dry about my observations. This may frustrate some ...yet help others.

I think yu know this...I hope Happy Some others on that board feel differently. But I am not an adversary by any means.
And I do want the New Samsung 55" 8000 series LED FP. (It is probably the best offering Technology has to date!) Sooner than later if possible. Just need a loose time frame at best.
Sad
Thanx again for your help.
