I know you seem to hold live cds in high regard as do many others. This is for all of you if you find it useful. With it you can build a linux system from scratch, but it can also serve as a rescue tool.

I consider it most likely the more advanced users already are aware of it.

I popped this in once but was not able to access my hard drives.

When trying to save files, I use these 2.

At first I only noted KNOPPIX, today Damn Small Linux seems to find some that will use that since... it's smaller and is less demanding on hardware.

My preferred rescue disc

I tried to rescue files from my friend's laptop using Knoppix, DSL, Dynebolic, and Puppy. All of them had some kind of problem which prevented me from copying the files to my MP3 player.

In the end, my trusty Ubuntu Live CD saved the day. Strange, but true; it's not just for testing hardware compatibility and installing!
