You asked why your Asus k52jk would not install Windows XP. It is a new machine as far as I can tell and that may be the reason. New computers may not be compatible with XP. In any case, on a machine that you purchased which came without any OS pre-loaded you would need to find all the drivers for the motherboard/chipset, video, sound, etc yourself, as the XP CD does not include those.

You said the 'tech' said you can install whatever you want. May be that tech can show you how to install XP.
