To pick: 1Gbyte Ultra Fast Card or 2 Gbyte Standard SD Card?

Jan 5, 2006 4:51AM PST

At this time, is the 2gbyte card worth the $ price tag? Especially if my battery might not last that long?

Im going on an extended vacation, and don't want to run out of space in my camera.. I plan on taking pics and a few 3-4minute movie clips.. (640x480 @ 30fps)

Camera to use: Panasonic Lumix FX9

Memory Card

Before you get a 2 gig memory card, make sure that your camera can handle that size.

As you said, your battery will need recharging before you fill up a 1 gig card.

If your user's manual does not suggest that you use a high speed card, it is not needed.

Think i'll stick w/the 1Gbyte. Did some price researching on the 2Gbyte, its a bit more than I wanted to spend.
Thanks

i would personally rather have two 1gb cards, just in case something happens while you are on vacation. the cards come in a plastic case and are very small, so carrying the 2nd one shouldn't be a problem. Have a great vacation.

I dunno your digicam's specs, but assuming you're taking 7MP pics at 1MB each, you'd need to take 900+ pics to fill that up. Even if you add MANY 3-4min vid clips, you should have roughly around 400 - 500 pics to work with. A 2nd 1GB SD card oughtta cover any extra "photo-happiness" that may overwhelm you. For sheer capacity, two 2GB SD cards hit the spot. But if it's a tradeoff, I'd do two 1GBs. SD cards are so small and unintrusive that you could put a couple of them in a mid-large sized wallet (those with extra sleeves/pockets) and not even notice them Happy Just make sure you check in on the if u take them out from time to time. That also makes 'em easier to lose Sad

Anyone find it just hilarious how we've been spoiled by digital photography? I still remember using film cams and I felt 'set' with with five 36 exposure rolls. Now I get uneasy, like several ppl i know and those here on Cnet when I don't have at least 2GB of capacity and 2 sets of batts on me? Grin
